When I was young,
I'd steal Mommy's shoes,
Pretending to be all grown-up,
because that's all I wanted.
When I was young,
I'd take out Pretty Pretty Princess,
and wear clip-on earrings,
just to look like a big girl.
When I was young,
I'd dance in pretty dresses,
prancing around the room,
for all my toys to watch.
As I grew a bit,
I tried on Mommy's shoes...
But then they fit.
As I grew a bit,
I broke out Pretty Pretty Princess...
But my ears had been pierced.
As I grew a bit,
I found those pretty dresses...
But no one wanted to watch.
Now I'm an adolescent,
and I hate Mommy's shoes...
They're not my style.
Now I'm an adolescent,
and I don't even wear my earrings...
They'll just fall out.
Now I'm an adolescent,
and I gave away my pretty dresses...
I don't even want to watch me.
The future is nearing,
and soon I'll be Mommy,
with a daughter who steals my shoes.
The future is nearing,
and soon I'll be giving Pretty Pretty Princess,
to my own little princess.
The future is nearing,
and soon I'll have no audience,
because it'll belong to a new young girl.
I'm grasping onto my childhood
with all my might,
because before you know it,
it's gone.
